Hi there,

Midlife can often feel like a plateau; we’ve climbed so far, achieved so much, and yet, there’s a horizon still waiting to be explored. It’s a time when we start to look around and question: Is this it? Or is there more to life still waiting to be discovered? These questions are not a crisis; they’re an awakening, a call to find new inspiration to energize our days.

The Quest for Inspiration

This blog is dedicated to that very quest—to find what truly inspires us. Inspiration, the kind we’re after, isn’t just a fleeting moment of excitement; it’s about those profound moments that shake us to our core and make us to say, “Yes, this is what I’m meant to do!” It’s about connecting with that profound urge that leads us to rediscover and reinvent.

Summit Cotopaxi

My Source of Inspiration

My search for inspiration began in an unexpected way, during a time when I was unwell and not working, due to Covid. As I rested, I found myself diving into deep meditation and inviting in the unknown. It was during this time that I discovered a story about the Argentinian and Chilean Andes that really excited me – places that echoed with the calls of my previous adventures.

That “wow” moment was a mixture of nostalgia and aspiration. Years ago, I had taken on the challenge of Cotopaxi in Ecuador, a venture that pushed me to my limits more than any experience before or since. The memories of that journey are vivid, replayed in my mind over the years, each recollection as inspiring as the climb itself. That sense of achievement was paralleled by another monumental trek to Mt Everest Basecamp with Hauser Excursions (Link in DE)

Now I have a new inspiration: The Argentinian and Chilean Andes in a year or two. This keeps me energized and my excitement alive when daily life gets too routine. This goal is not just a far-off dream; it’s an important chase that brings back the thrill of aiming high and breaking new ground.

But aspirations like these aren’t without their obstacles. The financial cost is substantial, requiring careful planning and creativity. My current physical fitness isn’t where it needs to be, and my health has seen better days. Moreover, the length of the journey isn’t easily accommodated within the typical holiday allowance. But it’s only an inspiration when it’s difficult. So I’m sure I find a way.

The Many Faces of Inspiration

Inspiration is individual. It can be the joy of creating a home where every brick tells a story of hard work and dreams realized. It could be the thrill of a new car, a symbol of freedom and the start of many journeys. Or it might be the bold move of emigration, embracing the unknown and learning from a new culture. Each of these signifies a leap towards a life less ordinary, a commitment to growth, and an embrace of change.

A Checklist for Embracing Inspiration

To find your own inspiration consider this checklist a guide to pursuing what makes life exciting

  • Let the ‘wow’ factor guide you—if it doesn’t stir something deep within you, it might not be your calling.

  • Trust your gut feelings; they are often closer to your true desires than you think. Overthinking can be the enemy of inspiration and action

  • Recognize that the path will have obstacles; they are opportunities to learn and become stronger.

  • Allow yourself moments of ‘irrational’ passion—it can be liberating and lead to the most fulfilling experiences. Unreasonably ambitious often brings joy.

  • Visualize your goal vividly. When you see it clearly in your mind’s eye, you set the wheels of creation in motion.

Engaging with Your Inspirations

So, what sets your soul on fire?

Let’s share these dreams and support each other in making them realities. Every story shared is an invitation to someone else to step up and chase their own dreams. It’s through this shared journey that we can all find the inspiration to make the rest of our lives the best of our lives.
